The Odds bet is the single best wager in the entire casino: it pays true odds with a 0% house edge. You can only place it as a backup to a Pass/Don't Pass or Come bet.
Once a point is set, you can place an additional "free odds" wager behind your Pass Line bet. It wins if the point repeats before a 7, and because it pays the true mathematical odds, the house has no edge on this portion of your money.
| Point | Odds Pays | House Edge |
|---|---|---|
| 4 or 10 | 2:1 | 0% |
| 5 or 9 | 3:2 | 0% |
| 6 or 8 | 6:5 | 0% |
Combining a low-edge Pass Line bet with maximum Odds dilutes the casino's advantage on your total wager. With 3x–5x odds, your blended house edge drops well below 1% — the best you can do anywhere in the building. Casinos cap how much odds you can take precisely because they make nothing on it.
Point is 4. You have $10 on the Pass Line and add $30 in odds. If the 4 repeats, the flat bet pays $10 (1:1) and the odds pay $60 (2:1 true odds) — $70 profit, none of it taxed by a house edge.

It pays the true mathematical probability of the point hitting before a 7. Because the payout exactly matches the odds, the casino has no built-in advantage.
It depends on the table. Common limits are 3x, 4x, or 5x your flat bet; some tables offer 10x or more. Always take the maximum you can afford to lower your overall edge.
