Pass Line Bet in Craps

By Felt Trainer Editorial · House edges computed from our open game engine · Last updated May 30, 2026

The Pass Line is the most fundamental bet in craps and the best place for any beginner to start. It pays even money (1:1) and carries a low 1.41% house edge.

How the Pass Line bet works

You place a Pass Line bet before the come-out roll. From there:

OutcomePaysHouse Edge
Win1:11.41%

Worked example

You bet $10 on the Pass Line. The come-out roll is a 6, so 6 is the point. A few rolls later the shooter hits another 6 before any 7 — you win $10 (paid 1:1). If a 7 had landed first, you would have lost the $10.

Why it is a beginner's best friend

At 1.41%, the Pass Line is one of the lowest-edge bets on the table. Better still, once a point is set you can back it with a free Odds bet that has a 0% house edge, dragging your overall edge well under 1%.
